Cumilla: Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain announced that more than 2 crore children nationwide have already been vaccinated against measles, surpassing the government's initial target. The minister made this announcement while speaking to reporters at Cumilla Medical College Hospital on Monday morning.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the measles vaccination campaign is ongoing, even after exceeding its target. During his visit to both Cumilla Medical College Hospital and Cumilla General Hospital, Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain emphasized that children are being vaccinated through the routine Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) as well as special outreach programs.
The minister highlighted the efforts of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, who is actively working to prevent measles and assured that issues within the country's health sector will be gradually addressed. Despite these efforts, sixteen children died from measles-like symptoms in Bangladesh in the 24 hours leading up to 8:00 am on Sunday. This marked the second-highest daily death toll since the outbreak began in March. The death toll for this year has now reached 528.
