Dhaka: Over 12 lakh individuals have received legal aid from the National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO) in Bangladesh since 2009, as revealed in a recent report on the organization’s official website.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the report elaborates on the extensive range of legal aid services provided under the Legal Aid Services Act, designed to assist financially disadvantaged and legally marginalized citizens. By May 2025, a total of 12,26,019 individuals benefitted from government-funded legal support.

Out of the total number, 4,28,301 court cases involving underprivileged litigants received legal aid. Additionally, 9,78,992 people were assisted through Legal Aid Offices located in all 64 districts, while 29,168 individuals received aid through the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office. Furthermore, 29,331 workers were supported through Legal Aid Cells in Dhaka and Chattogram.

The report also highlights that 1,88,528 people obtained guidance and support via the toll-free National Helpline (16430). This initiative is part of the government’s continuous efforts to ensure that justice is accessible to all citizens, especially those who cannot afford legal representation. These services, provided free of charge under the Legal Aid Act, underscore the state’s dedication to upholding the rights of its most vulnerable populations.
