Orbis International President Emphasizes Partnerships During Visit to PKSF

Dhaka: Orbis International President and CEO Kathleen Sherwin today visited the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF). Earlier, she observed the field activities under the project titled ‘Comprehensive Cataract Services for People Living in Poverty in Bangladesh’, a joint initiative of PKSF and Orbis International, according to a press release.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Sherwin was welcomed by PKSF Chairman Zakir Ahmed Khan and Managing Director Md Fazlul Kader. During her visit, Sherwin expressed appreciation for PKSF’s efforts and highlighted the importance of eye health services for climate-vulnerable and underserved communities. She also emphasized the potential for expanding these services in the future and expressed hope for continued collaboration through the EyePlus initiative.



PKSF Managing Director Md Fazlul Kader, in his welcome speech, underscored the significance of the cataract surgeries as part of a larger humanitarian mission. He shared details about PKSF’s ‘Strategic Plan 2025-2030’, and mentioned plans to leverage PKSF’s extensive network of Partner Organizations (POs) across Bangladesh for implementing similar humanitarian activities.



Dr. Munir Ahmed, Country Director of Orbis International, Bangladesh, highlighted the increased awareness of eye care among local communities due to the cataract surgery program. He praised the collaborative efforts of PKSF and its POs in promoting eye health.



PKSF Chairman Zakir Ahmed Khan addressed the multidimensional nature of poverty, advocating for comprehensive efforts to address it. He expressed interest in collaborating with Orbis International’s EyePlus program and emphasized PKSF’s commitment to working with organizations like Orbis International for national development.



The ‘Comprehensive Cataract Services for People Living in Poverty in Bangladesh’ initiative has enabled 27,800 individuals to regain their sight through cataract surgeries in the past six months. Additionally, nearly 200,000 people have received primary eye care screenings. This initiative is being carried out through 115 POs in 59 districts and 30 partner hospitals of Orbis International Bangladesh, with senior officials from both PKSF and Orbis International present at the event.
