Tejgaon:Prime Minister's Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon on Wednesday accused opposition political parties of mimicking the ways of a previously ousted authoritarian regime. This accusation arose amidst claims that recent incidents were orchestrated to overshadow Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's successful visit to New York for the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Rumon expressed these views during a press conference held at the Karabi Hall of the Prime Minister's Office. He indicated that the opposition's rhetoric resembled that of the former government and suggested that an incident in the city's ECB Chattar area was highlighted to divert attention from the Prime Minister's achievements in New York.

Rumon elaborated on the Prime Minister's packed schedule during the visit, noting engagements from early morning until late at night. He expressed disappointment that discussions about the visit's success were overshadowed by the incident, which he implied was deliberately timed.

Further, Rumon criticized the past 15 years under what he described as a 'fascist government,' contrasting it with the current administration's efforts to build a more humane Bangladesh. He appealed for public cooperation, likening the challenges faced by the government to attempting to swim with bound hands and feet.

The press conference was attended by PM's Adviser and PMO Spokesperson Mahdi Amin, PM's Press Secretary Saleh Shibly, Speechwriter Mahfuzur Rahman, and Deputy Press Secretaries Hasan Shiplu and Md Suzauddhowla.
