The F series from Oppo has always been big on the front camera. Dubbed the “Selfie Expert”, this series of phones brought about a dynamic change in mobile self-shooting. The journey of the F series began in 2016 with the F1. Fast forward to 2022, Oppo had a grand launch of their latest F21 Pro devices in Bangladesh on 11th April. Currently, pre-orders are available with scheduled sales to start on 18th April 2022. Here is UNB’s detailed take on the Oppo F21 Pro.

Key Specifications of Oppo F21 Pro

Design and Build Quality

Beyond the obvious spectrum of the F21 Pro being a camera phone, there is also another aspect that makes it even more unique. The F21 Pro is the first device from Oppo that has been assembled in Bangladesh. It’s a testament to the development of the tech production infrastructure of Bangladesh and the first of many such initiatives to follow.

Moving onto the design and build, there are a few key changes this year. Oppo made a straight jump to F21 Pro from last year’s F 19 Pro, skipping the 20 in between. So, what are the changes here?

The most notable change is on the back and the camera module. The back features fiberglass leather, an enhanced variant of the usual leather which is touted to be more durable and long-lasting. The camera module features a more iPhone-like design with two large sensors and a smaller third one.

The frame of the device is made from plastic with a glass front. Ports and button selections are as usual with an addition of the secondary noise cancellation mic on the top. However, there aren’t any dual stereo speakers, only a single bottom-firing loudspeaker. This is a letdown considering the premium price of the device.

Overall, the build quality and design are definitely a notch up from last year with a few notable improvements and room for some more.

Display

The F21 Pro sports an AMOLED panel on the 6.43-inch display panel. The FHD+ panel is just another usual AMOLED panel without any bells and whistles. However, one important feature of the display is the brightness.

The phone has a max brightness of 600 nits and a direct sunlight brightness of up to 800 nits. This makes the panel perfectly legible under any lighting condition. The viewing angles are also excellent with the panel. Overall, users will be getting a quality viewing experience here.

Camera

As mentioned before, the F21 Pro has always been a camera-oriented phone, especially the front camera. The main camera module on the back features a triple camera setup with a 64 MP f/1.7 wide-angle shooter. The other two accompanying lenses are a 2 MP microscopic lens and a 2 MP depth sensor.

The microscopic lens is a surprising addition as it is not usually seen on mobile devices. there is a supporting light ring around the micro lens to properly illuminate the minute subjects. The performance of the main sensor is also decent. Pictures look crisp and bright under direct sunlight. However, there are noticeable grains and noises in dimly lit environments that require the use of a dedicated night mode.

The front sensor is a 32 MP f/2.4 shooter. Pictures from the front lens look very sharp and detailed compared to any models in this price range. Oppo really did put the effort into the front camera and it shows. The overall videography of both the front and the back cameras is on par with the competitors. The lack of OIS hampers the stability a bit, but the gyro-EIS helps offset the lacking.

Processor and Performance

The F19 Pro from last year used the mid-range MediaTek MT6779V Helio P95. However, this year, the F21 Pro has moved away from MediaTek to use the Snapdragon 680 processor based on the 6 Nm architecture. The 6 Nm architecture makes the phone incredibly efficient at battery and performance management.

The octa-core chipset is divided into 4 2.4 GHz Kryo 265 Gold and 4 1.9 GHz Kryo 265 Silver with an Adreno 610 GPU. The specs on paper seem promising. The performance of the mid-range 680 chip easily helps the device breeze through the day-to-day tasks.

Though the phone isn’t marketed as a gaming device, it still does fairly well in graphic-intensive games. Titles like COD and Asphalt 9 run smoothly in the highest graphic settings. But the device heats up pretty fast though it doesn’t have much impact on the performance.

On the OS end, users will be getting the same Color OS found on other Oppo devices. Color OS requires an acquired taste and those who have used Oppo devices before will feel right at home. The 8/256 GB storage configuration is the only one that will be available in Bangladesh.

Battery and Charge Time

The Oppo F21 Pro features a 4500 mAh battery. The processor and the AMOLED panel help to amp out the battery to almost 7 to 8 hours of screen on time. To make things sweeter, there is also a 33 W fast charger included in the box.

Official Price of OPPO F21 Pro in Bangladesh

The launch price of the Oppo F21 Pro in Bangladesh is 27,990 BDT. The phone is exclusively available through pre-order and will be available in official Oppo stores from 18th April.

Verdict

The Oppo F21 Pro takes a lot of the failings of the F19 Pro and makes them better. This time the phone features a better camera, a better design with a premium look. The battery and the fast charging are also useful upgrades. However, the build quality doesn’t really live up to the expectations. So, who exactly is this device for? As always this is a perfect device for people looking for a camera phone at a mid-range price. The camera system won’t rival the likes of Samsung or Pixel but it definitely outperforms its market competition.
