Historic May Day observed in Bhola

The historic “May Day” was observed in the

district like other parts of the country and elsewhere across the world in a

befitting manner.

This year’s theme of the day is “Sramik-Malik Gorbo Desh, Smart Hobey

Bangladesh”.

The day is being observed across the globe since 1886 commemorating the

supreme sacrifices of the workers at Hay Market, Chicago, in the USA for

eight-hour working day and upholding the rights of the working people.

To press home their demands, working people had to sacrifice their valuable

lives in tragic bomb attacks and police atrocities on May 1, 1886 and the

following days.

On the occasion, a colorful rally was brought out from the premises of the

Deputy Commissioner Office this morning and ended there after parading main

streets of the district.

After the rally, a discussion was also held in the conference room of the

Deputy Commissioner.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Arifuzzaman addressed the function as the chief

guest with Additional District Magistrate Md. Alamgir Hussa
in in the chair.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Md. Mahiduzzaman, Additional Deputy

Commissioner (General) Kaiser Khosru, District Awami League General Secretary

Mainul Hossain Biplab, Freedom Fighter Md. Shafiqul Islam, Sadar Upazila

Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sajal Chandra Sheel, District Information Officer Md.

Nurul Amin spoke, among others.

Officials of different government and non-government organisations, leaders

and workers of various labor organisations were present on the occasion.
