Only AL practices democracy in party: Quader

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said only the Awami League (AL) practices democracy in party as a big political organization in the country.

"Only the AL always practices democracy in party for electing its leaders as a big political organization in the country," he told a dialogue in the media center in Bangladesh Secretariat.

Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum (BSRF) organised the dialogue with its president Shyamol Sarkar in the chair, while general secretary of BSRF Siddiqur Rahman moderated it.

The newly elected general secretary of the ruling Awami League (AL) warned of the party leaders and activists for any sorts of misdeeds by misusing the power.

"They have already been warned of to be amended themselves. Otherwise, it would be taken consideration while giving nomination," he said.

Obaidul Quader said the AL committee was formed through two-day national council.

"The AL president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recognized the party leaders at grassroots for their contribution through the council, he said, adding, "We have formed the full-fledged committee within two or three days and the party would be stronger by bringing discipline."

Quader said the present government, led by AL, took a big challenge to elevate Bangladesh as a middle income country through the vision 2021.
