Chattogram: A mobile court today imposed a fine of TK 50,000 on an individual for illegally constructing a dam in the middle of a canal in the Boalkhali upazila of the district. The action was taken to address the unauthorized obstruction that was affecting local water flow.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Rahmat Ullah led the operation in the Kadhurkhil area, penalizing 78-year-old Mohammad Yunus under the Bangladesh Environment Conservation Act of 1995. The illegal construction was situated in the Chowdhury Hat area of Sharif Para, causing a blockade in the canal's water flow.

The UNO stated that the dam's construction was disrupting irrigation activities crucial for the current Boro season. Consequently, the illegal structure was demolished during the operation, and construction activities were halted to restore the canal's natural flow.
