Dhaka: One more death was reported from dengue in 24 hours till 8 am today, raising the number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in the country to 188 this year. During the same period, 632 more patients were hospitalised with the viral fever, bringing the total number of infected cases to 44,473 this year.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the new cases were distributed across several divisions. In Barishal Division (outside the city corporation), there were 157 new cases, while Chattogram Division (outside the city corporation) reported 78 cases. Dhaka Division (outside the city corporation) recorded 101 cases. In the capital, Dhaka North City Corporation had 123 new cases, and Dhaka South City Corporation reported 84 cases. Additionally, Khulna Division (outside the city corporation) saw 33 new cases, and Rajshahi Division (outside the city corporation) had 56 cases.
Last year, dengue claimed the lives of 575 individuals. However, 2023 has proven to be the deadliest year on record, with 1,705 people losing their lives to the disease. The Directorate General of Health Services recorded a staggering 321,179 dengue cases and reported 318,749 recoveries in the same year.
