Dhaka: National University (NU) Vice-Chancellor Professor A S M Amanullah today highlighted the crucial need for developing skilled manpower equipped with technical and timely knowledge to address future challenges. He pointed out that despite Bangladesh's significant ownership of the Bay of Bengal, the country has been unable to efficiently exploit its vast marine resources due to technical deficiencies, leading to reliance on foreign assistance.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Amanullah made these remarks at a seminar titled 'Blue Economy Growth Initiatives in Bangladesh', held at the Bangladesh Maritime University. The event was jointly organized by the Maritime Tourism and Hospitality Management Department of Bangladesh Maritime University and the NU Innovation and Sustainability Lab.
During the seminar, Dr. Md Saiful Islam, Head of the Department of Maritime Tourism and Hospitality Management, delivered the welcome address. Bangladesh Maritime University Vice Chancellor Rear Admiral Dr. Khandaker Akhter Hossain participated as the chief guest.
Professor Amanullah emphasized the importance of institutions like Bangladesh Maritime University in pioneering education opportunities in various professional sectors, including maritime, tourism, and aviation. He expressed NU's willingness to collaborate with educational institutions to make these professional courses accessible to the country's youth.
In his address as the chief guest, Professor Khandaker Akhtar Hossain asserted that Bangladesh Maritime University is eager to partner with the National University to develop skilled manpower. He mentioned the potential signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two universities to facilitate this collaborative effort.
The seminar featured several papers and articles on the Blue Economy and related topics, fostering discussions on strategies to harness the marine wealth of Bangladesh effectively.
