Dhaka: The National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC) has reported significant progress in strengthening cybersecurity, protecting citizens' information, and ensuring uninterrupted operation of critical ICT infrastructure.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the six-month progress report on the implementation of the BNP's electoral pledges on law and order highlights that the government has prioritized modernizing cybersecurity infrastructure and protecting sensitive information as part of its broader efforts to strengthen national security.
The report stated that NTMC has completed the modernization of its firewall infrastructure, achieving 100 percent progress against the target. The upgraded firewall aims to enhance protection against cyber threats and unauthorized access to critical information systems.
The report also highlighted the role of the Security Operation Centre (SOC) in strengthening cybersecurity. Through the SOC, cyber threats are being continuously monitored and addressed, while initiatives are underway to bring additional systems under its coverage.
"Firewall modernization has been completed, with the progress rate reaching 100 percent, while the Security Operation Centre is providing protection against cyber threats," the report stated.
NTMC has also taken measures to strengthen information security through its own data center. According to the report, the center is ensuring secure information exchange, while the modernization of the firewall has already been completed.
Another key initiative is the establishment of a backup system for the data center. The system is being introduced to ensure high availability of critical data-center systems and protect important information from possible disruptions or system failures.
The report mentioned that the installation of the backup system for NTMC's own data-center systems is currently underway, with the aim of ensuring uninterrupted availability of the systems.
The cybersecurity initiatives are part of the government's broader commitments to strengthen law enforcement and national security under the BNP's electoral pledges. The measures are expected to enhance cyber threat detection, safeguard sensitive information, and improve the resilience of critical digital infrastructure.
