Rangpur: National Citizen Party (NCP) member-secretary Akhter Hossen has stated that ensuring the arrest and punishment of murderers will eliminate the need for politicians to have gunmen for security. He emphasized that if criminals continue to evade justice, politicians will remain vulnerable, and security cannot be assured by gunmen alone.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Akhter Hossen made these remarks while speaking to local reporters at the ’36 July Memorial Square’ in front of the Public Library ground in Rangpur city. His visit to Rangpur was part of his election campaign and party activities in his Rangpur-4 (Pirgachha-Kawnia) constituency. During his visit, he met with party leaders and activists at the memorial square.
Hossen proposed the creation of a comprehensive database of the country’s criminals and murderers to serve as an effective security measure. He argued that the presence of gunmen alone cannot ensure security if murderers are freely operating. He stressed the importance of improving the law and order situation in Bangladesh to facilitate a peaceful transfer of power and ensure public participation in elections.
Hossen highlighted the inability of law enforcement agencies to determine whether those involved in the murder of Shaheed Osman Hadi Bhai are still in the country or have fled to India. He called for the immediate capture and punishment of the gang responsible for the murder, noting that the perpetrators are known and that a larger group is likely involved.
Hossen also addressed attempts to disrupt the electoral process and demanded justice for Shaheed Osman Hadi Bhai’s murder, urging the government to prevent further such incidents. He accused the ousted Awami League and their allies of attempting to destabilize the country but noted that legal action was possible against them following a mass uprising.
The event was attended by NCP Rangpur District Committee Convener Md Al Mamun, Metropolitan member-secretary Abdul Malek, District joint conveners Alamgir Nayan and Abu Raihan, Rangpur-4 Constituency Election Steering Committee Chief Coordinator Abdullah-Al Mamun, and NCP leader Toufiq Islam, among others.
