Rangpur: Police have arrested Bhendabari Union Awami League president and former union parishad chairman Md Manjur Hossain, 52, during the ‘Operation Devil Hunt Phase-2’ drive at Bhendabari Bazar in Pirganj upazila of Rangpur. There are multiple cases against him on charges of assault, obstruction, and attempted murder related to the anti-discrimination movement. He had been evading arrest for a considerable period.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrest was made on Friday afternoon around 3:30 PM based on secret information, as confirmed by Inspector (Investigation) of Pirganj police station, Md Nahid Hasan. “We arrested Md Manjur Hossain in a drive based on secret information from Bhendabari Bazar,” Inspector Hasan told BSS at 6 PM.
Manjur Hossain, son of Md Monwar Hossain of Bhendabari village, is also a member of Pirganj Upazila Awami League. Inspector Hasan stated that all legal processes will be followed, and the arrested Manjur Hossain is set to be produced before a Rangpur court tomorrow (Saturday).
