Gazipur: A 72-year-old man lost his life when a bamboo roof of a shop collapsed on him during a nor’wester in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur district early Tuesday. The tragic incident occurred as the storm wreaked havoc in the area, causing significant damage.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the deceased, identified as Sirajul Islam, hailed from Nagarpur upazila in Tangail district. Sanchay Saha, the officer-in-charge of Sreepur Police Station, reported that Sirajul had been residing at a shop in the Chhatir Bazar area of Tepirbari village for work purposes. He and his son Shahin were engaged in crafting bamboo ceilings.
On the night of the incident, Sirajul was asleep inside the shop beneath the bamboo structure when the storm caused it to collapse, resulting in his death. His body was discovered on Tuesday morning and subsequently sent back to his village home.
The officer-in-charge mentioned that legal proceedings would be initiated upon receiving a formal complaint from the deceased’s family members.
