Dhaka: Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) today issued a warning of nor’wester storms and heavy rainfall in different parts of the country, including the capital Dhaka, over the next 48 hours from 1:00 pm.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, nor’wester storms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds blowing from the west or northwest at speeds of 60-80 kmph may sweep across Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions during the period, as stated in a BMD bulletin.

In another warning, the department highlighted that due to continued formation of thunderclouds over the country, heavy (44-88 mm/24 hours) to very heavy (188 mm/24 hours) rainfall may occur at places over Dhaka, Mymensingh, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions within the same timeframe.

The BMD further indicated that heavy to very heavy rainfall may cause temporary water-logging in some areas, while landslides may occur at places in the hilly regions of Chattogram division.
