Dhaka: Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher has announced that future construction and housing developments will strictly adhere to approved designs and legal regulations. During a views-exchange meeting with the Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh (REHAB) and the Bangladesh Land Developers Association, held at the ministry's conference room, the minister emphasized the importance of complying with established building laws.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Minister Taher highlighted past lapses in the enforcement of building construction laws over the last 17 years. Despite the inclusion of Sewage Treatment Plants (STP) and soak wells in approved plans, many developers failed to implement these essential features. Moving forward, the government intends to ensure strict enforcement of these legal requirements. The minister urged members of REHAB and the Bangladesh Land Developers Association to remain vigilant against any violations of building laws.
Furthermore, Taher announced plans to fully digitalize the land use clearance and plan approval process under RAJUK, aiming for 100% digitalization. The National Housing Authority's regulations will also undergo amendments to establish a clear policy framework for developers operating outside the capital.
State Minister for Housing and Public Works Ahammad Sohel Monzoor, RAJUK Chairman Engineer Md. Reazul Islam, and Additional Secretary Md. Abdul Matin were present at the event. State Minister Monzoor addressed developers, urging them to prioritize customer grievances, noting issues such as delayed delivery of promised flats or apartments and prolonged refund processes for those unable to continue instalments.
During the meeting, leaders from REHAB and the Bangladesh Land Developers Association reiterated their commitment to constructing buildings and developing real estate in accordance with laws and regulations. They also shared their perspectives on the Detailed Area Plan (DAP) and the Dhaka Metropolitan Building Construction Rules.
