Dhaka: Nomination papers of 1,842 candidates have been declared valid for the 13th Parliamentary Election following scrutiny by returning officers and assistant returning officers across all 300 constituencies. A total of 723 candidates’ nomination papers were rejected on various grounds, as stated by the Election Commission (EC) sources.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the EC issued a notification today revealing that candidates collected a total of 3,406 nomination papers for the 300 parliamentary seats. Out of these, 2,568 nomination papers were submitted to the returning officers. Following the scrutiny process, the EC validated 1,842 nomination papers and rejected 723. It is important to note that the scrutiny process for three nomination papers submitted on behalf of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia was concluded without verification due to her death.
The Election Commission provided a detailed breakdown of the region-wise submissions and validations. In the Dhaka region, 442 nomination papers were submitted across 20 constituencies, with 309 found valid and 133 rejected. In the Rangpur region, out of 279 nomination papers, 219 were validated and 59 were rejected. The Rajshahi region saw 260 submissions, with 185 valid and 74 rejected.
In the Khulna region, 275 nomination papers were submitted, resulting in 196 valid and 79 rejected. The Barishal region had 162 submissions, with 131 validated and 31 rejected. Meanwhile, in the Mymensingh region, 311 nomination papers resulted in 199 validations and 112 rejections. Faridpur region witnessed 142 submissions, with 96 valid and 46 rejected.
For the Sylhet region, out of 146 nomination papers, 110 were valid and 36 were rejected. The Cumilla region saw 357 submissions, with 259 validated and 97 rejected. Finally, in the Chattogram region, 194 nomination papers were submitted, with 138 deemed valid and 56 rejected.
Appeals against the decisions of the Returning Officers regarding the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers can be filed with the Election Commission starting tomorrow.
