No Situation Yet to Be Worried About Polls: EC Secretary

Dhaka: Election Commission (EC) Secretariat Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed today assured that there is no situation so far that warrants panic or concern regarding the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad election, he addressed journalists at Nirbachan Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon, stating, ‘So far, there is no reason for panic or concern.’



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Akhtar Ahmed spoke about the ongoing preparations, mentioning that while the Election Commission’s initial plans may not be executed exactly as outlined, necessary adjustments are made based on the evolving situation. He explained that some tasks have already been completed, while others are still in progress and will require additional time, emphasizing that activities cannot always be strictly scheduled or executed according to fixed dates and times.



Ahmed further mentioned that the list of polling centres has been finalized, and both the registration of political parties and the final list of polling centres are expected to be completed within the week. He also addressed the registration of new political parties, noting that information from the field is being reviewed, with the process likely to conclude within the week.



In response to a concern from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Akhtar Ahmed acknowledged that the party has sent a letter objecting to the amendment of the Representation of the People Order (RPO). He assured that the Commission will make a decision regarding this matter.
