Savar: Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammed Aminur Rashid assured the public on Thursday that there is no shortage of sacrificial animals in the country. Speaking at the Bangladesh Livestock Research Institute (BLRI) auditorium, he emphasized that the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha festivities will be supported by locally reared animals, ensuring sufficient supply for the traditional Qurbani sacrifice.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the minister highlighted that over one crore sacrificial animals, including cattle, goats, and sheep, have been prepared to meet the demand. He confirmed that the supply exceeds the requirement for Eid, eliminating the necessity for importing animals this year. To prevent any illegal entry of livestock, strict instructions have been given to law enforcement, and residents in border areas have been cautioned against smuggling activities.

Minister Rashid also focused on the importance of sustainable livestock development. He mentioned ongoing efforts to promote cost-effective cattle rearing and the production of improved grass varieties. The visit to BLRI was aimed at reviewing the progress of research activities in these areas.

In addition to livestock supply, the minister addressed the issue of rawhide prices. He informed that new rates have been established in coordination with traders, following a meeting chaired by the Commerce Minister. The session included various stakeholders and was held on Wednesday.

Highlighting the government’s commitment to agriculture, Minister Rashid drew attention to recent initiatives such as farmer cards, family cards, and Tk 10,000 agricultural loan waivers. He described these measures as farmer-oriented decisions aligned with the government’s agriculture-friendly agenda.
