Dhaka: Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam has announced that the Awami League, under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, will not be permitted to participate in the national elections set for February 12, 2026. Alam referred to Hasina as a “heinous criminal” who is allegedly advocating for terror attacks against Bangladesh.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Alam highlighted that Sheikh Hasina is a death-row convict for crimes against humanity and is currently evading justice. He emphasized that she continues to incite terrorist activities against the nation, which further disqualifies her party from engaging in the electoral process.
Alam stated, “No democratic country in the world can allow a party led by such a terrible criminal to carry out any kind of activity, let alone hold elections.” The statement underscores the government’s firm stance against the Awami League’s involvement in political activities, as the party remains banned in the country.
