Dhaka: The Advisory Council Committee on Economic Affairs today approved a proposal in principle for procuring consultancy services for the ongoing Dhaka Environmentally Sustainable Water Supply (DESWS) project being implemented by Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Dhaka WASA).

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the approval came from the 40th meeting of the committee this year, held at the Cabinet Division Conference Room at Bangladesh Secretariat today. One proposal from the Local Government Division was placed and discussed during the meeting, which was presided over by Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed.

Under the approved proposal, the Germany-based international consultancy firm Fichtner GmbH and Co. KG will be appointed under the Management, Design and Supervision Consultant (MDSC) package of the project. The consultancy services will be procured through the Single Source Selection (SSS) method in line with the Public Procurement Rules (PPR) 2025.

The proposed consultancy period will span 24 months, from September 2025 to August 2027. After detailed discussion, the committee recommended the proposal for approval in principle, paving the way for continued technical and supervisory support for the environmentally sustainable water supply initiative in Dhaka.

The DESWS project aims to strengthen sustainable water supply infrastructure in the capital city while ensuring environmental protection and long-term resilience.
