Dhaka: BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today stated that the timeframe for upcoming polls was not discussed during the meeting with visiting UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. Guterres participated in a roundtable meeting with the National Consensus Commission and political leaders at a city hotel, where Mirza Fakhrul was in attendance. The meeting was organized under the UN's initiative, with members of the Reform Commission and various political leaders present.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the BNP secretary general conveyed to the UN chief that election-related reforms should be expedited to facilitate the next national election promptly. He emphasized that reforms are a continuous process and the remaining tasks must be completed by the new parliament. Mirza Fakhrul noted that Guterres refrained from commenting on the matter.
BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed was also present during the briefing. Other notable attendees included Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul, Vice-Chairman of the National Consensus Commission Professor Dr. Ali Riaz, and several key political figures such as members Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, Badiul Alam Majumder, National Citizens Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam, and Jamaat representatives including Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Parwar and Naib-e-Amir Syed Abdullah Taher. Additionally, Nagorik Oikya President Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Gana Sanghati Andolan's Zunaid Saki, CPB's Ruhin Hossain Prince, and AB Party's Asaduzzaman Fuad were in attendance.
