Jashore: The Ministry of Home Affairs has confirmed that no application was submitted seeking parole for Jashore Central Jail inmate Jewel Hasan Saddam, following the tragic death of his wife and child.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the ministry released a statement clarifying that neither Saddam’s family nor any other party applied to the Jashore Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate or the Jashore Central Jail authorities for his release on parole. The ministry’s statement came in response to reports circulating in some media outlets and on social media, which incorrectly claimed that such an application had been made.

The ministry revealed that a verbal request from Saddam’s family led to the decision to bring the bodies of his wife and child to the Jashore jail gate. This gesture was made considering the humanitarian aspect, with the Jashore district administration and jail authorities providing maximum cooperation.

The Home Ministry emphasized the importance of accurate and objective news reporting, urging media outlets to respect the public’s right to accurate information.

Earlier, the bodies of Saddam’s wife Kaniz Subarna Swarnali and their nine-month-old child were discovered at their home in Sabekdanga village, Bagerhat Sadar upazila. The police recovered the bodies and arranged for them to be taken to Jashore Central Jail, allowing Saddam an opportunity to see his family for the last time.

Jashore Central Jail Superintendent Abid Ahmed reported that Saddam, a BCL leader, was briefly brought inside the prison to view the bodies. It was a poignant moment, as he held his child for the first and final time, the child having been born during his incarceration. Saddam has been detained at the jail since his transfer there on December 15, facing multiple legal cases.
