Dhaka: Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher Sumon today emphasized that no leniency would be shown to officials responsible for causing public suffering, while assuring full support from the ministry to those who work with honesty and dedication. “Utmost importance must be given to ensuring that citizens are not forced to visit offices repeatedly to receive services,” he stated during a views exchange meeting with officials at the conference room of the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) in the capital.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister highlighted that people approach RAJUK with their needs, not to seek favors. He stressed that no file should be kept pending unnecessarily and every task must be completed within the stipulated timeframe. The Public Works Minister acknowledged the many complaints from the general public regarding RAJUK, citing prolonged delays in file processing, harassment in obtaining services, irregularities, and unnecessary complications as issues that have tarnished the institution’s image. “This situation must be changed, and it must be changed now,” he asserted.
State Minister for Housing and Public Works Ahammad Sohel Monzoor, Secretary Md. Nazrul Islam, and RAJUK Chairman Engineer Md. Riazul Islam were among those present at the meeting organized by RAJUK. Addressing the officials, State Minister Ahammad Sohel mentioned that the government aims to transform RAJUK into a people-friendly institution free from corruption and harassment.
RAJUK Members Mohammad Bashirul Haque Bhuiyan, Sheikh Matiar Rahman, and Mohammad Zahirul Islam, along with other officials, also attended the meeting. Before the discussion, Chief Town Planner Md. Ashraful Islam presented RAJUK’s ongoing activities and future work plans.
