Women and Children Affairs and Social Welfare Minister Prof AZM Zahid Hossain today emphasized that criminals have no identity and that no one involved in criminal activities should be spared. He insisted that drugs must be eradicated through strict enforcement of the law, highlighting that taking the law into one’s own hands should be avoided.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister made these remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a science fair held at the Nabiganj Upazila Parishad auditorium in Dinajpur this afternoon. During the event, he also distributed cheques to families of road accident victims, provided agricultural components to farmers, and gave bicycles to students of ethnic communities.

The minister stressed that the sale, distribution, possession, and use of drugs cannot be tolerated under any circumstances, as they are detrimental to the youth. “The pain of a drug addict can only be understood by that fami
ly,” he remarked, urging everyone to stay vigilant against drugs and to offer full cooperation to the administration in their prevention and control efforts.

Dr Zahid also praised the innovative projects displayed by students at the science fair, expressing his belief that today’s students could become the nation’s leading scientists in the future. He encouraged the younger generation to pursue modern education and urged teachers to adopt more engaging teaching methods to foster a science-oriented mindset among students.

In addition to the distribution of bicycles to 17 students from small ethnic communities, the event also saw 540 farmers receiving one kilogram of vegetable seeds and 10 kilograms of chemical fertiliser each, with support from the Department of Agricultural Extension under the SACP-RAINS project. Furthermore, 40 farmers were provided with 2 kilograms of mung bean seeds and 10 kilograms of fertiliser each.
