Dhaka: Election Commissioner Brig. Gen. Abul Fazal Md. Sanaullah (Retd.) today emphasized the uncompromising stance on maintaining the integrity of voting processes. Addressing a meeting at the Deputy Commissioner's office, Sanaullah asserted that any vote cast without adherence to proper procedures will be invalidated. He highlighted that both general and postal ballots will be counted simultaneously, though the postal ballots will require more time.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Sanaullah addressed the law enforcement cell and vigilance teams ahead of the 13th national election and the referendum. He expressed that there is widespread eagerness among citizens to participate in the voting process, and it is the responsibility of the authorities to facilitate a peaceful and festive voting environment.
The commissioner also pointed out the issue of groups attempting to hinder opposing voters from reaching polling centres, stressing the need for the administration to ensure unobstructed access for all voters. He clarified the handling of postal ballots, noting the distinction between those sent from abroad and those from within the country. Postal ballots from abroad will be sent directly to the Returning Officer via the postal department, while domestic postal ballots will be managed through local post offices.
The meeting, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Shafiqul Islam, included participation from Upazila Nirbahi Officers, election officials, and various representatives from law enforcement and military agencies. The discussions focused on electoral law and order, the voting environment, and the upcoming referendum.
