Dhaka: Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Huq Chowdhury today warned that no negligence will be accepted in the public service. ‘To ensure public services, everybody should perform their duty with due consciousness and integrity,’ he said. The minister made these remarks as the chief guest while addressing an exchange of views meeting with officials and employees of different agencies under the labour and employment ministry at Shrama Bhaban in the city’s Bijoy Nagar Area here.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister urged the concerned officials to provide workers with harassment-free services after ensuring personal responsibility at every stage during this time. Huq highlighted that although most people in the country belong to the labour and working class, the current reliance on manual systems instead of online facilities for providing public assistance or services is unfortunate.

The minister also issued directives for quickly preparing a full-fledged roster of the beneficiaries of 32 labour welfare centres to enhance service development. In addition, he emphasized increasing technological capacity and reviewing the progress of ongoing development works, including the information technology sector of the labour directorate.

Labour and Employment Secretary M Abdur Rahman Tarafdar termed child labour as a heinous crime and stressed the importance of collective efforts to prevent it. The meeting was attended by Director General of the Department of Labour Fahmida Akhter, Inspector General of the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments Omar Md Imrul Mohsin, Bangladesh Labour Welfare Foundation Director General M Munir Hossain Khan, and other officials and employees of different agencies under the labour ministry.
