Dhaka: The Chamber Court of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court issued an order today, clearing the way for the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) polls scheduled for tomorrow. “The election should take place,” stated Judge of the Appellate Division Farah Mahbub, as she extended the Chamber Court’s previous order that had stayed a High Court directive. This directive had previously halted the effectiveness of a letter sent by BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul on September 18.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the letter from Aminul Islam Bulbul requested district and divisional sports associations to nominate councillors from ad-hoc committees for the upcoming election. The Chamber Court’s decision now removes any obstacles to the BCB election. BCB lawyer Mahin M Rahman informed reporters of this development, emphasizing that the election is set to proceed as planned.
Additional Attorney Generals Mohammad Arshadur Rouf and Aneek R Haque represented the state in the court proceedings. Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajol and Barrister Kayser Kamal participated in the hearing on behalf of the petitioner, further highlighting the legal complexities surrounding the election process.
