Dhaka: Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md Abdus Salam emphasized the necessity of ensuring the complete utilization of bus terminals to restore discipline on city roads. "Sayedabad would be transformed into a modern and user-friendly terminal by ensuring facilities for transport owners and workers, and sought cooperation from all stakeholders," Salam stated during a meeting on the Sayedabad Inter-District Bus Terminal held at Nagar Bhaban.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the DSCC has undertaken an initiative to modernize the Sayedabad Inter-District Bus Terminal in line with its original design. This move aims to restore order in Dhaka's public transport system and alleviate traffic congestion. The plan includes removing all unauthorized roadside ticket counters and requiring buses to operate from within the terminal premises.
The meeting, chaired by DSCC Administrator Abdus Salam, featured lawmaker of Pabna-5 constituency and transport leader Advocate Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas as a special guest. Key decisions made at the meeting included the reallocation of counters, eviction of illegal establishments, infrastructure development, and enhancement of passenger services.
A fair redistribution of the 110 ticket counters in six blocks within the terminal will be implemented, with transport owners' associations assisting DSCC and traffic police in the process. All unauthorized counters around the terminal, as well as illegal shops inside, will be promptly removed.
To ensure proper use of the flyover route in accordance with the terminal's original design, boundary walls will be constructed in open spaces. Improved drainage facilities will be introduced to eliminate waterlogging, and abandoned bus wreckages will be cleared.
Additionally, plans are in place to install a modern breastfeeding center, spacious waiting lounges, clean toilets, a police outpost, and neon signboards to enhance passenger convenience and security. Lawmaker Advocate Shimul Biswas noted that operating buses from inside the terminal would boost passenger safety and help curb the tendency of charging extra fares during Eid and other peak travel seasons.
He further stated that the government, along with transport owners and workers, aims to provide better passenger services through coordinated efforts. The meeting was attended by senior DSCC officials and representatives from transport owners' and workers' federations.
