Dhaka: The National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO) has extended government-funded legal assistance in 482,906 cases to financially disadvantaged litigants across the country since 2009.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the information was detailed in a report published on the NLASO's website. The report indicates that the data encompasses legal assistance provided through August 2026. Among the total cases, 3,483 were managed through the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, 474,715 through the 64 district legal aid offices nationwide, and 4,708 through the Dhaka and Chattogram Labour Legal Aid Cells.
Legal aid services are facilitated through various channels including the 64 district legal aid offices, the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office, the Dhaka and Chattogram Labour Legal Aid Cells, and a government legal aid national helpline call center, which is accessible toll-free at 16699. These services are also available to prisoners, ensuring broader access to justice.
Under the Legal Aid Services Act, the government provides free legal assistance to financially disadvantaged and otherwise unable litigants. This initiative aims to ensure access to justice for all. The activities of the NLASO are conducted under the Law and Justice Division of the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
