Dhaka: Minister for Cultural Affairs Nitai Roy Chowdhury today visited the residence of Gulbadan Nesa Monika, the ailing wife of Language Movement veteran Abdul Matin, in Mohammadpur in the city. He inquired about her health and handed over a cheque for Taka five lakh from the Bangladesh Shilpi Kalyan Trust (Bangladesh Artistes' Welfare Trust) as financial assistance for her treatment.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister also expressed his wishes for her early recovery, as mentioned in a press release this afternoon. He recalled the significant contribution of Abdul Matin to the Language Movement with deep respect, noting that his struggles and sacrifices for the mother tongue have remained unforgotten.
The minister emphasized that the sacrifices and ideals of the Language Movement veterans would continue to inspire future generations. The visit was attended by the Managing Director of the Bangladesh Shilpi Kalyan Trust and two daughters of Language Movement veteran Abdul Matin.
