Jamalpur: Nine candidates are intensifying their election campaigns in Jamalpur-3 constituency, comprising Melandah and Madarganj upazilas, ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Election. Among the candidates, Md Mostafizur Rahman Babul is contesting for the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), while Md Majibur Rahman Azadi represents Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. Islami Andolan Bangladesh has nominated Mohammad Daulatuzzaman Ansari. Other party-backed candidates include Mir Samsul Alam of Jatiya Party, Liton Miah of Gano Adhikar Parishad, and Fidel Noyem of Gano Sanghati Andolan. Three independent candidates-Md Sadikur Rahman Shuva, Farjana Farid, and Shiblul Bari-are also in the race.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, BNP candidate Mostafizur Rahman Babul is continuing his campaign across different areas of the constituency. He stated that his aim is to work for social harmony and development in Melandah and Madarganj. He plans to prioritize education, healthcare, communication, and employment, with a focus on building a peaceful society free from drugs, terrorism, and corruption. Referring to the referendum, he mentioned that BNP has taken a position in favor of it and that party leaders and activists are campaigning for a “Yes” vote. He also expressed hope for a peaceful, credible, and impartial election.
Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Md Majibur Rahman Azadi is conducting door-to-door campaigns, seeking voter support. He emphasized that his party is prioritizing the establishment of a corruption-free society and employment opportunities for unemployed youths, alongside improvements in education, health services, agriculture, communication, social harmony, and the social safety net. Commenting on the July charter, Azadi stated that the party is campaigning for a “Yes” vote in line with organizational directives. He added that people had long been deprived of their voting rights and expressed hope for a peaceful and impartial election.
Independent candidate Md Sadikur Rahman Shuva outlined his electoral pledges, which include extending the railway line to Madarganj Upazila, establishing two nursing institutes and a library, constructing a bridge to connect Madarganj with Sariakandi in Bogura district, and implementing sustainable measures to prevent river erosion. Shuva also called for carrying forward the spirit of the July Uprising, expressing his desire for a peaceful, fair, transparent, and credible election to strengthen democracy in the country.
According to election office sources, a total of 532,808 voters-269,916 male, 262,886 female, and six transgender-will exercise their voting rights in the constituency. Voting will take place at 154 centers, including 62 in Madarganj and 92 in Melandah upazilas, with a total of 974 polling booths to be set up.
