The large-scale National Joint Exercise “Nikitis-DIMITRA 2024” was completed on Friday with the participation of the entire National Guard (NG) personnel and its assets.
According to a statement by the General Staff of the National Guard, the exercise was conducted between June 3 and 7 in the land, sea and air space of the free territory of Cyprus, while phases of the exercise involved reservists, conscripts, as well as the Greek Armed Forces’ National Guard, including government agencies and services involved in providing support to the NG under the coordination of the Central Civil Emergency Planning Section (CCEPS) of the Ministry of Defence.
As stated, the purpose of the exercise was to train personnel in decision-making processes, translate them into instructions and orders during periods of tension, crisis and operations, evaluate operational tools, the recruitment system and plans, and test the logistics system.
It is added that Chief of the National Guard, Lieutenant General Georgios Tsitsikostas,
attended phases of the exercise that took place at various firing and exercise grounds, where he gave instructions and directions and congratulated the personnel for the excellent planning and preparation, as well as for the high level of training and combat ability under particularly demanding conditions, while part of the exercise was attended by the Minister of Defence, Vassilis Palmas, in the presence of the Chief of the National Guard.
