Khulna: Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Mohammad Shafiqul Alam today stated that the upcoming national election is anticipated to be the most credible and peaceful in the country’s history. He made this assertion during a views exchange meeting with journalists at the Khulna Deputy Commissioner’s conference room, emphasizing that the election will occur in a festive and peaceful environment.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Alam highlighted that the primary aim of the mass uprising in July 2024 was to restore democracy in Bangladesh. The interim government has undertaken all necessary measures to ensure a free and fair election. Alam also noted the government’s significant focus on Khulna, expressing confidence that tangible progress would be visible in the near future despite current invisibility.

The press secretary criticized the previous Awami League government for leaving behind a fragile economy, impacting growth in Khulna’s jute and shrimp sectors. He raised concerns about the closure of jute mills and the lingering questions surrounding their shutdown. Alam also remarked on the increase in educational institutions in Khulna, including public universities, and the government’s plans to nationalize schools in every jute mill across the country.

Alam mentioned ongoing efforts to appoint a Vice-Chancellor at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) through a search committee. He emphasized Khulna’s growth in relation to the strategic importance of Mongla Port, with initiatives underway to establish an economic zone centered around it. Support from China was sought for this initiative during a recent visit by the Chief Adviser.

Describing the upcoming decade as a ‘decade of growth’ for Khulna, Alam expressed optimism that the region would regain its former glory. He detailed efforts by the government to protect coastal embankments and address water-logging issues in Bhodra, as well as projects for safe drinking water in coastal areas like Shyamnagar and Gabura in Satkhira. Additionally, a special project is being developed for climate refugees.

Responding to inquiries about gas supply to Khulna factories, Alam acknowledged that many factories, particularly those in the footwear and battery sectors, operate without gas. He stressed the government’s focus on enhancing employment through skilled labor rather than relying solely on gas.

On the topic of law and order, Alam asserted the government’s zero-tolerance policy toward crime, which has improved overall law and order in the country, including Khulna. Finally, he highlighted the government’s commitment to fundamental reforms, claiming that transparency has been restored in every ministry through structural changes, contributing to the establishment of good governance.

Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad Mojumder and Senior Assistant Press Secretary Fayez Ahmad were present at the meeting.
