The Netherlands have become the first team to reach the quarterfinals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar as they beat the USA 3-1 in the first Round of 16 fixture.
Memphis Depay gave the Oranje an early lead with a goal in the 10th minute. Daley Blind would double the Dutch lead in the closing minutes of the first half, as both goals were expertly assisted by Denzel Dumfries.
The USA would pull one back courtesy of Haji Wright, who scored from a Christian Pulisic cross in the 76th minute.
Their hopes of a comeback were dashed, however, as Denzel Dumfries capped off an outstanding performance with a goal in the 81st minute to make it 3-1 for the Netherlands.

Memphis Depay: Depay opened the scoring early on and looked a threat throughout the game.

Aftermath
The Netherlands didn’t have to face any major trouble beating the USA in order to seal their place in the quarterfinals. They will now wait to see who they face among Argentina and Australia in their quarterfinal tie. As for the USA, their journey in Qatar ended in the Round of 16.
