Sylhet: Netherlands captain Scott Edwards won the toss and sent Bangladesh into bat first in the third and final T20 match of the series at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium today. Bangladesh had already clinched the series following their eight-wicket and nine-wicket victories in the first two matches.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the hosts are aiming for a clean sweep by winning the third match as well. They have not been able to whitewash any opponents since sweeping a two-match series against Afghanistan at home in July 2023. In fact, Bangladesh has only managed to sweep a three-match series once in their history, which occurred against a formidable England team at home in March 2023.
Apart from targeting a series sweep, Bangladesh is also preparing for the Asia Cup, and therefore they made five changes for the final match to give all players in the squad an opportunity to play in an international match. Bangladesh rested Parvez Hossain Emon, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, and Shoriful Islam.
Nurul Hasan Sohan returned to the playing XI, playing his first T20 match after two years. Along with him, Shoriful Islam, Saifuddin, Rishad Hossain, and Shamim Patwari were included in the playing XI in place of the rested players.
On the other hand, the Netherlands made just one change in their lineup, with Tim Pringle returning to the fold, replacing Sikander Zulfiqar, as they seek a consolation victory.
