Dhaka: The National Democratic Movement (NDM) has submitted a formal letter to the Election Commission (EC), urging it to uphold the previous provision of the Representation of the People Order (RPO) ahead of the 13th National Parliament elections. The letter was signed by the party’s chairman, Bobby Hajjaj, and delivered to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin by Party Office Secretary Jabedur Rahman Johnny.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the letter emphasized that even if an electoral alliance is formed, a candidate should be able to run under their own party’s symbol, which was previously a matter of choice for political parties in the alliance. The letter argued that if a political party can campaign and participate in an alliance, there should be no legal obligation for it to contest under its own symbol.

The letter further stated, “We are demanding that the provisions of the Representation of the People Order-1972 be upheld so that political parties have the freedom to contest under the symbol of any party in the alliance during an alliance election.” This demand highlights the NDM’s stance on maintaining flexibility for political parties in alliance elections.
