Dhaka: The National Consumers’ Right Protection (NCRP) Directorate has taken decisive action by imposing fines exceeding Taka 10 lakhs on 138 establishments throughout the country. This measure aims to ensure the stability of rice prices and its supply.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a total of 63 teams from the NCRP conducted operations across 44 districts, including the capital city, on Wednesday. During this extensive drive, fines amounting to Taka 10,04,000 were levied against 138 establishments found in violation.
In Dhaka alone, the directorate imposed fines totaling Taka 1,28,000 on 22 establishments for various irregularities. The operation in the city was carried out by 10 teams, each led by a directorate officer, targeting rice markets in areas such as Jatrabari, Malibagh, Lalbagh, Madhya Badda, Mohammadpur town hall bazar, Mirpur-10, and Sat Feet. This initiative is part of the directorate’s ongoing efforts to supervise and regulate the rice market, with plans to continue monitoring in the future.
