Dhaka:The National Citizen Party (NCP) has announced a mass protest at Shahbagh on Friday, advocating for a five-point charter of demands, including the resignation of Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and Energy Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood. The party is urging these resignations due to the ministers' alleged failures in ensuring public safety and energy security.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the NCP issued a statement Thursday night emphasizing its demand for the two ministers to step down. Additionally, the NCP is calling for the dissolution of a committee on constitutional amendment perceived to be dominated by a single party, advocating instead for the formation of a constitutional reform council that aligns with referendum outcomes.

Further demands from the NCP include the repeal of laws that contradict human rights and freedom of expression, as well as a halt to the proposed amendments to the Cyber Security Act. They also seek the completion and implementation of trials related to the July mass killings and the dismissal of the Inspector General of Police over controversial comments on extrajudicial killings.

NCP Joint Convener Sarwar Tushar stated that party leaders and political council members would convene at Shahbagh for the protest. Tushar emphasized that this event should not be labeled a grand rally, noting that it will commence in Dhaka and be succeeded by similar demonstrations in other divisional cities. The NCP intends to organize a large-scale rally after the conclusion of these protest programs.
