Dhaka: The captains of the National Cricket League insisted on showing strong performances in the upcoming first-class season, saying that the improved facilities in this season motivated them to a great extent.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mymensingh captain Rakibul Hasan expressed his determination to perform consistently in both red- and white-ball cricket as he aims for an opportunity in the national team. He emphasized his plan to deliver strong performances regardless of the format, believing that consistent showings could open doors for him on the national stage. Rakibul, who captained Bangladesh at the 2022 Under-19 World Cup, acknowledged the challenges spinners face in first-class cricket but remained determined to rely on his strengths.
Chattogram captain Yasir Ali Chowdhury noted that the return of the Kookaburra ball, replacing the Duke, might make batting somewhat easier yet pose different challenges for batters against spin. Yasir welcomed the preparation of second-XI players alongside main squads, considering it beneficial as younger players would be well-versed in red-ball cricket. He expressed confidence in his team's capabilities, stressing the importance of having a full squad to pursue the championship title.
Rajshahi captain Pritom Kumar highlighted the introduction of baggy caps for first-class cricketers as a significant motivational boost, providing the competition a greater sense of occasion. As one of the leading run-scorers last season, Pritom emphasized his commitment to contributing according to team needs rather than focusing solely on personal achievements.
Barisal captain Iftekhar Hossain Ifti, leading an NCL team for the first time, expressed his hopes to improve the division's fortunes after a challenging period. Khulna captain Mohammad Mithun, who debuted in first-class cricket in 2006, reflected on the evolution of domestic cricket.
