Dhaka: The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has issued a warning after uncovering a fraud syndicate that has been exploiting the name of the personal assistant to the NBR chairman to intimidate individuals and extort money.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the syndicate has been falsely representing themselves as Md Kawsar, the personal assistant to the NBR chairman, in their communications with various individuals. They have been using threats and coercion to demand money from unsuspecting victims.

The NBR has urged its officials and employees to stay vigilant and not to respond to any fraudulent calls or demands. Furthermore, it has advised them to report any such incidents to the appropriate authorities without delay.

The revenue board has clarified that neither the chairman nor his office is involved in these activities and has warned that legal action will be pursued against those participating in the scam. In connection with this matter, a general diary has been lodged with the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.
