Dhaka: The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extended the deadline for income tax returns submission by all types of taxpayers, except companies, in both offline and online formats by one month until December 31, 2024.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the NBR issued an order today to extend the deadline following requests from various quarters and taxpayers. This extension allows all types of taxpayers, including individual taxpayers, to submit their returns without any fines until the new deadline. However, this facility will not be applicable to companies.
The NBR reported that approximately 3.75 lakh taxpayers have submitted their returns online so far. The revenue board anticipates that taxpayers will be able to submit their returns without any issues this year. As per the Income Tax Act, 2023, the original deadline for submission of income tax returns by all types of taxpayers except companies for the tax year 2024-25 was November 30, 2024.
Additionally, the NBR has made it mandatory for g
overnment employees under the jurisdiction of income tax circles in Dhaka North, Dhaka South, Gazipur, and Narayanganj city corporations to file their returns online. The same requirement applies to officers and employees of all scheduled banks, mobile telecom service providers, and certain multinational companies, including Unilever Bangladesh Limited, British American Tobacco Bangladesh Company Limited, Marico Bangladesh Limited, Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited, Bata Shoe Company (Bangladesh) Limited, and Nestlé Bangladesh Plc.
The online return filing system has been operational since September 9 this year. Individual taxpayers can prepare and file their returns online using the National Board of Revenue website at www.etaxnbr.gov.bd. This system allows taxpayers to pay taxes via internet banking, card payment (debit/credit card), and mobile banking, and to download and print copies of filed returns, receipts, income tax certificates, and TIN certificates.
