Nazrul’s thoughts similarly relevant to all eras: DU VC

Akhtaruzzaman today said Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam’s extraordinary ideas and

philosophy of humane, non-communal, non-discriminatory and inclusive society,

reflected in all of his works are equally relevant to contemporary era.

“Inspired by the values of Nazrul, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh

Mujibur Rahman took and implemented various initiatives to build an

exploitation-free, discrimination-free and inclusive society through a long

struggle”, said Akhtaruzzaman.

The Vice Chancellor was addressing a discussion at the graveyard of Kazi

Nazrul marking the 47th death anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam

at Dhaka University Campus.

Pro-VC (Administration) Dr Mohammad Samad, DU Pro-VC (Academic) Dr ASM Masud

Kamal, Dhaka University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) President Dr Nizamul

Hoque Bhuiyan also addressed the discussion, conducted by DU Bangla

department chairperson Dr Fatema Kawser.

Retired Professor of DU Bangla department Professor Dr Syed Mohammad Sahed

delivered the memorial speech in the discussion.

Akhtaruzzaman said the new generation will be more humanitarian and secular

in the light of Agnibeena to build an inclusive society.

Nazrul is poet of equality, non communalism, humanity and love, Akhtaruzzaman

said, adding, “He was the source of inspiration for Bangabandhu during the

crisis and transitional period of the nation”.

Earlier, teachers, students, officers and employees of the university, led by

DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman, paid glowing tributes to

the poet by placing wreaths at the grave of the poet at 6:15 am, said a press

release.

Qurankhwani was also organised after Zohr prayers at DU central mosque

adjacent to the grave of the national poet.
