Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi today emphasized that national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam serves as the primary inspiration for developing a democratic society. Rizvi made this statement while addressing the media after paying tribute to the poet on his 49th death anniversary at the poet's grave located on the Dhaka University premises.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizvi highlighted various facets of Nazrul's ideology, stating, "When the nation is at a loss and directionless, his writings become an ideal. From the anti-British movement to the 2024 mass uprising, the poet's writings have always been relevant." Rizvi underscored the significance of Nazrul's spirit as the cornerstone for building an advanced and democratic society, mentioning his influence on the July mass uprising and other national movements.
Rizvi further remarked on the current political climate, noting that although the autocratic government has fallen, democracy is yet to be fully established in Bangladesh. He advocated for free and fair elections to be held before Ramadan to restore the voting rights of the people, which have been denied for the past 15 years.
He also called for collective efforts to establish a developed and democratic society, emphasizing the unity present in Nazrul's creations. Rizvi acknowledged the continued struggle of Begum Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman, who cherish the spirit of poet Nazrul in their endeavors.
