Gulshan: BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan has called on party leaders, activists, and voters to guard polling centres in shifts to ensure a free and fair election. He made this appeal during an emergency press conference at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Wednesday night.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Nazrul expressed concerns over what he described as ‘illegal activities’ occurring in various parts of the country, involving activists from Jamaat-e-Islami and the NCP. He urged the citizens and party members to remain vigilant to protect the electoral process from obstruction. “You will guard the polling centres in shifts,” he emphasized, asking everyone to stay at the polling stations until results are announced.
Nazrul reiterated the party’s aspiration for a fair and neutral election, emphasizing their commitment to establishing a strong democratic government supported by public welfare. He brought attention to alleged incidents of infiltration and financial misconduct at polling centres in areas such as Dhaka, Thakurgaon, Shariatpur, and Noakhali, as well as an incident at Saidpur Airport involving money recovered from a local leader.
He mentioned that many party members have sacrificed their lives for democratic rights and stressed the importance of implementing the party’s election manifesto if given the opportunity. Nazrul also addressed claims of ‘false reports’ concerning the recovery of money from Shahid Uddin Chowdhury’s vehicle, the BNP candidate for Laxmipur-3.
The briefing was attended by members of the party’s election steering committee, including Ismail Zabihullah, Mahdi Amin, and the BNP Chairman’s Press Secretary Saleh Shibli.
