Dhaka: Bangladesh Navy has rescued a fishing trawler along with 24 fishermen during its routine patrolling in the Bay of Bengal. The Navy ship BNS Aparajeyo intervened when the fishing trawler 'Madina-6' was found floating due to an engine failure, stated an ISPR press release today.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the patrolling Navy ship spotted the stranded fishing trawler approximately 29 miles away from Mongla Fairway Buoy and swiftly moved to the location. The engine of the fishing trawler had malfunctioned, leaving it adrift in the sea. The fishermen, lacking necessary communication equipment, were unable to reach out for help, as they reported.

The naval forces rescued the fishermen and provided essential supplies, including food, clean water, and primary medical aid. The fishermen had initially set out to sea from Kutubdia for fishing on October 29. After securing the trawler, the Navy ship towed it and the fishermen to Hironpoint, near Sundarban, covering a distance of 35 miles from the rescue site.

The rescued fishermen and their trawler were subsequently handed over to the Coast Guard western zone for further actions.
