Dhaka: A contingent of the Bangladesh Navy today conducted raids at different areas of Bhola and Moheshkhali and detained two people with local and foreign-made arms and ammunition.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the operation was part of a countrywide drive in assigned areas to strengthen security and curb crime ahead of the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Polls and Referendum-2026, as stated in a release from the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate.
Based on secret information, the naval contingent in Bhola Sadar, working with the Bangladesh Coast Guard and the police, raided a tin-shed house near the Barkandaj Jame Mosque in the Baliakandi area of Dhania Union in Bhola district. Two individuals, Selim Kazi and Md Hasan, were arrested, both of whom are close accomplices of Jamal Uddin alias Soket Jamal.
During the operation, authorities recovered a single-barrel domestic pipe gun, a single-barrel gun, two domestic weapons, three rounds of shotgun cartridges, 12 rounds of live ammunition, and one rocket parachute flare.
Meanwhile, in a separate raid, the Maheshkhali naval contingent conducted an operation at a house in the Panerchhora area of Kalarmarchhara Union of Moheshkhali upazila. During this raid, two domestic single-barrel guns, one live cartridge, and six domestic weapons were recovered.
The recovered weapons, ammunition, and the arrestees were subsequently handed over to the concerned police stations for legal action. The Navy has been conducting regular operations to prevent drugs, terrorism, and criminal activities to maintain security and law and order in the country.
Additionally, over 5,000 Navy personnel are actively working at the field level to ensure the national polls and referendum 2026 are organized in a free, fair, and peaceful manner, as noted by the ISPR.
