Mirpur: The 18th National Wushu competition, a significant event in the Wushu calendar, commenced today at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in Mirpur. The competition kicked off a day ahead of its formal opening ceremony, setting the stage for five days of intense competition.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, National Sports Council Secretary Aminul Islam is slated to officially inaugurate the event as the chief guest tomorrow afternoon. The opening ceremony will be presided over by Bangladesh Wushu Federation (BWF) president Major General ASM Ridwanur Rahman. The competition has drawn participation from nearly 418 athletes, coaches, and officials across 28 teams, including notable entities such as the Bangladesh Army, Border Guard Bangladesh, Bangladesh Police, Ansar and VDP, and Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan. The BWF organizes the event.

It is noteworthy that the BWF plans to initiate a residential training camp at the Mirpur Sports Complex starting August 1. This camp will focus on the winners selected from the ongoing national competition, with particular attention on gold and silver medalists. The primary aim of the training camp is to identify and develop new talent for future international competitions.
