Dhaka: The National Kabaddi (men's and women's) championship, coinciding with the Festival of Youth 2025, is scheduled to commence on Tuesday, July 29, featuring participation from all sixty-four districts across the country.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the championship will be divided into eight zones, each comprising eight district teams, starting with the Padma zone. The subsequent zonal phases will follow in a structured sequence. The zones have been named after major rivers in Bangladesh, including Teesta (Rangpur district), Brahmaputra (Tangail district), Karnaphuli (Cumilla district), Rupsha (Jessore district), Dhansieri (Barisal district), Surma (Sylhet district), and Modhumoti (Gopalganj district).
Following the zonal phase, champions from each zone will compete in the inter-district championship. The four semifinalist teams from this stage, along with the services teams, will advance to the national championship, which will later be held in Dhaka.
This announcement was made during a press conference at the Bangladesh Olympic Association auditorium. Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation (BKF) general secretary SM Newaz Shohag expressed that the championship aims to discover new kabaddi talents from remote areas and further promote the sport across the nation.
National Sports Council Secretary Aminul Islam, BKF joint secretary Abdul Haque, and BKF member and Bangladesh Police DIG Md Moniruzzaman were also present at the press conference.
