National Expatriate Day to be observed Dec 30

he government has taken a decision to observe December 30 as the National Expatriate Day.

 

The Cabinet on Monday approved the proposal, said Cabinet Secretary Kabir Bin Anwar while talking to reporters at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

 

The approval came from the cabinet meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in chair at her office.

 

“An elaborate discussion on observance of the National Expatriate Day was held at the meeting. The day will be observed with the Bangladeshi expatriates across the world,” he said.

 

The government will launch campaign on the programmes it has taken for the expatriates, he said.

 

Already 21 online services have been identified for the expatriates and those services will be made available for them through embassies and missions, he added.

 

The Cabinet also cleared a proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to be signed with Libya to recruit workers from Bangladesh.

The MoU over ‘Joint Cooperation in the field of Recruitment of Workers will establish direct contact between the governments of Bangladesh and Libya, said Kabir Bin Anwar.

 

He said the rights and dignity of the workers were protected in the proposed instrument.

 

Besides, the Cabinet approved the draft speech of President Abdul Hamid to be delivered in Parliament in the maiden session of 2023.

 

Parliament will go into the next session (21st session of the 11th Parliament) on January 5 next, when the President will address the House due to the constitutional obligation, said the Cabinet Secretary.

 

The President has to address the first parliament session of every year, according to Article 73(2) of the Constitution.
